Pride and Prejudice has inspired hundreds of retellings, sequels, and reimaginings since its publication. These are among the most critically recognised and commercially successful.
Death Comes to Pemberley
P.D. James (2011)
A murder mystery set six years after Elizabeth and Darcy's marriage. When a body is discovered on the Pemberley estate during the annual ball, the Darcys are drawn into a criminal investigation that tests their marriage and reputations.
Longbourn
Jo Baker (2013)
The story of Pride and Prejudice told from the servants' perspective. Sarah, a housemaid at Longbourn, navigates her own romance and hardships while the Bennets' dramas unfold above stairs. A critically acclaimed reimagining of class and labour in Regency England.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Seth Grahame-Smith (2009)
The novel that launched the literary mashup genre. Austen's original text is interwoven with scenes of zombie mayhem, recasting the Bennet sisters as trained warriors defending Hertfordshire from the undead plague.
Mr. Darcy's Diary
Amanda Grange (2007)
The events of Pride and Prejudice retold through Darcy's private diary entries, revealing his inner turmoil, growing admiration for Elizabeth, and the social pressures that shape his actions.
Eligible
Curtis Sittenfeld (2016)
A modern retelling set in contemporary Cincinnati. The Bennets are a dysfunctional family; Darcy is a neurosurgeon; Bingley is a reality TV star. Sittenfeld transplants Austen's social comedy into the age of social media and reality television.
